The white arch of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge over the Trinity in Dallas at night.

QuickBooks Bookkeeping Cleanup HelpFor Texas owners

The practice is in Dallas. Texas owners join by video, with the same three reports, and the company file can stay where it is.

Bring the three reports

The practice is in Dallas, and the work still travels

We read the reconciliation, the filed year profit and loss, and the open bank statements for an owner anywhere in Texas. The call is a video call. The reports travel. The login does not have to. If you are in Dallas or Fort Worth, the practice is in your metro. If you are outside those two cities, we are all Texans, and we will not pretend we live on your street.

A month that matches a statement is the same month on either side of the state. We do not keep a second way of closing the books for a shop in Houston, a ranch account in the Panhandle, or a store in the Valley. The three reports are the start, and then the month can be named.

The white arch over the Trinity

We know the white arch where Woodall Rodgers crosses the Trinity. That span is the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, opened in 2012, and the practice sits on the Dallas side of it. The filed year profit should be one span like that, the number the return already used. A newer export is a different bridge. It does not replace the year someone already signed.

Showrooms took over the old warehouse blocks in the Design District, a short way from that same river. We like walking those rooms. The month in the file still has to agree with the statement before anyone talks about changing a line. A fresh coat of paint on a warehouse does not make last March match the bank.

The loop people call LBJ is Interstate 635 around the north and east side of Dallas. We know that loop, and we know it is not the same road as the one that crosses the Trinity. Wages and the three reports are different roads too. Seeing both on one screen does not make them one job. The wage payment itself keeps running at the payroll company this owner already uses, and this reading does not take that calendar over.

A season, a fair, and a winter front

The Mavericks play at American Airlines Center in Victory Park, and 2011 is the year they won it all. A season ends when the score is settled. A month ends when the statement agrees, not when the software marks the year done and not when the calendar turns.

Fair Park holds the State Fair, and the fair's own count is more than two million people across twenty four days. The blocks around it stay full for that whole stretch, and we know the calendar. A company file can feel just as packed when a dozen months are still open. Three files are how we walk through that crowd, and nobody edits the file while we do.

A blue norther drops the temperature between November and March. We feel that front in Dallas. Every Texan knows the first one, including an owner on the Gulf or up in the Panhandle, and we are all Texans about that weather. An open file left through the front is harder to read in the spring. Name the last month that already agrees before the next season starts.

Plates, lines, and one exit

El Fenix has been serving Tex Mex downtown since 1918, and Wednesday is the enchilada night people still plan around. We know that room. A filed year has the same kind of memory. The profit and loss for that year is the plate that already went out. Pulling a fresh year to date report and calling it the same meal is how the return and the books stop talking.

Pecan Lodge is the Deep Ellum barbecue place people line up for, brisket and ribs and a wait that everyone can see. We know that line. A login is a different kind of line. You do not have to stand in it for us to tell whether March is the last month the bank and the screen agreed. Copies of the three reports are enough for a first reading.

Near UT Southwestern, Sonny Bryan's has been serving barbecue since 1958. We know that corner. A good plate takes the time it takes, and a useful call asks for the same patience. The twenty minutes we want are for the reconciliation, the filed year, and the statements you could gather.

Drivers on the north side of downtown call the hotel-and-office row along Interstate 35E by an older name, Stemmons. We know that row. When the evening is short, one exit is the whole plan. The operating-account reconciliation is that exit. It names the last month the register and the bank already agreed on, and the other two reports hang from that month.

From near downtown the Dallas North Tollway runs north toward Prosper, and that road was the first in the country to collect with a TollTag. We know that drive. The tag lets a car pass the booth without a fresh explanation every time. A Texas owner can use this page the same way. The three reports are the start, and the brand name does not have to be translated first.

A charter, a sales tax return, and the May report

An SMU note has been tracking companies that move their charter from Delaware to Texas, often for cost and for Texas business law. We watch that wave the way other Texans do, and we still want the books to be readable before a new charter means anything. A clean state filing on top of a year that does not match the bank is a nicer letter on a messy file. An owner in Houston, the Valley, or a Panhandle town gets that same reading on a video call.

Texas sales tax is a state rate of 6.25 percent, and local tax can add as much as 2 percent, so the combined rate is at most 8.25 percent. The 6.25 percent state rate and the local add-on are taken from the Comptroller sales tax page. The payable account on the balance sheet should tell the same story as the returns that were filed. The payable and the amount sent to the Comptroller should be the same story. A mismatch is a report to read, not a reason to start a second company file.

For a 2026 franchise report the Comptroller page lists a no tax due threshold of 2,650,000 dollars, a 0.375 percent rate for retail or wholesale, and 0.75 percent for other entities, due 15 May. The same office lists those figures for reports due in 2027. The books have to be readable before that report is a real number. The threshold is the line on the Comptroller page, and that line does not promise a result for any one company.

What a Texas statute still leaves unsigned

Texas Occupations Code section 901.451 covers a return, management advice, and statements that carry no report, and it does not demand the license an assurance report uses. Those assurance reports sit in sections 901.453 and 901.456. The capitol statute site is the place to read the three sections, in that order.

On this address the work is still the three reports, the month they support, payday set up with the provider you already run, and the return prepared from a month that matches. An audit, a review, or a compilation is named on the disclosures page and pointed to a firm that can sign it. A picture of a city outside Texas is not used as a stand in for the bridge on this page, or for the papers on your table.

When you are ready, pick a time. Bring the reconciliation if you have it, the profit and loss for the year that was filed, and the statement files for the months after the last match. The company file can stay closed.
